Linux DVDs have been discontinued — choose Linux on USB instead

We no longer sell Linux OS on DVD. Our Linux USB drives offer a far more reliable installation process, performance is up to 5× faster than DVD, and offers a more realistic experience when trying Linux in Live mode.

You can also format and reuse your USB drive afterwards to try other Linux operating systems at a later date, using our Linux OS manuals to guide you.

LMDE 6 comes with a wide selection of pre-installed software to get you started immediately. Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 is based on Debian 12, also known as Bookworm. Debian is one of the oldest and most respected Linux distributions, known for its stability and reliability. LMDE was first introduced by the Linux Mint team as a contingency plan, ensuring Linux Mint could continue development even if Ubuntu was no longer viable. Over time, LMDE has evolved into a full-featured edition of Mint, maintaining the same look and feel as the Ubuntu-based versions but using Debian as its core.

LMDE 6 is ideal for home users who are new to Linux and want a dependable, user-friendly desktop operating system. It suits those who have used Windows in the past and are seeking a clean, organized alternative that works out of the box. Whether you're browsing the web, managing files, watching videos, or working on documents, LMDE offers a smooth and familiar experience that’s easy to learn and enjoyable to use daily.
