Ubuntu Unity 26.10 on 64GB USB Stick

Ubuntu Unity 26.10 on a bootable 64GB USB stick keeps the distinctive Unity desktop available on the updated Ubuntu platform. This Stonking Stingray release concentrates on maintenance, packaging improvements and bug fixes while continuing to use Unity 7.7.

Unity offers a recognisable desktop with its launcher, Dash and productivity-focused approach to finding applications and switching tasks. It appeals to users who enjoyed Ubuntu’s earlier Unity desktop and want to continue that workflow on a newer operating-system base.

Features and benefits

• Unity 7.7 desktop: Retains the established Unity interface, with maintenance work aimed at keeping the desktop usable as the Ubuntu base evolves.
• Maintenance and bug fixes: The release addresses longstanding issues, updates packaging and replaces some unmaintained dependencies with supported alternatives.
• Lomiri applications: Lomiri Calculator, Lomiri Files and Lomiri Terminal are included. Unity 7.7 remains the desktop in this release.
• Desktop component updates: Changes include updated unity-settings-daemon packaging, a policy fix in the nux library and new wallpapers.
• Updated Ubuntu foundation: The Ubuntu 26.10 base and Linux kernel 7.3 provide newer system components beneath the familiar desktop.

What does STS mean?

STS means Short Term Support, a convenient way to describe Ubuntu’s standard, or interim, releases. These editions bring newer Linux kernels, updated desktops and fresh software between LTS releases. Think of them as a way to try the latest and greatest developments that may help shape the next Long Term Support release, without the extended support period of LTS.

Version 26.10 receives nine months of updates, until July 2027. Plan to upgrade to a supported release before that period ends. STS is a full release rather than a beta, but it suits users who are comfortable upgrading more frequently.

Try it from USB

Supplied ready to boot on a 64GB USB stick, Ubuntu Unity 26.10 lets you explore the live desktop and check your computer’s compatibility before deciding whether to install. Start your computer from the USB and choose the live or try option to explore without installing to your internal drive. An installer is also available when you are ready.

Choose Ubuntu Unity 26.10 if you like the Unity workflow, want to revisit an earlier Ubuntu desktop style, or enjoy comparing different Ubuntu flavours. This edition emphasises maintenance and continuity while the project prepares its future desktop direction.
